I’ve been beating on my Milwaukee M12 and M18 as a contractor for years and I’ve had one single M12 battery go bad on me. But I’d get whatever ecosystem which has the most tools suitable for your use and worry about the lifetime warranty later.Īfter buying into an ecosystem and a new tool here or there, most people end up with more batteries than they could possibly use.

Yes it’s great you get free replacements. I Find it weird that people are so hung up or looking at Ridgid’s LSA as a huge thing. That reminds me, I have 2 of mine (really old ones - have no power gauge on them) that are getting noticeably weaker, so will probably need to replace them next year. When they fail, you can just get the replaced for free. With Ridgid at least, batteries are NOT a worry. Not saying Ridgid tools are better (but plenty good for home DIYers) and quite decent. So honestly, would cost less to just buy another kit HD shows the 20v Dewalt batteries dual pack for $159, but no stock anywhere near me at least. Unless you find some deals or clearance sales ,batteries are NOT cheap. So unless there is some defect, in about 8 yrs, you will probably be in the market for new batteries. But after that, batteries tend to fade slowly. They are great tools, and typically (assuming not defect) for at least 5 years you won't need to worry about them. Thanks for the detail explanation, I don’t see a good deal going on for Ridgid right now, but I do see dewalt brishless combo deals on Home depot and canadian tire, are these good options as well ? But everything has it's place (big/small tools). I use them at work, and they are light and perfect for assembly work. But you need to factor in replacement batteries when they do fail. So if you buy the ridgid tools kit, it may very well be the last kit you buy (unless your needs change), since it has a lifetime warranty (assuming you register it).Īre they the best tools out there for commercial use ? Maybe Not. The replacement batteries on any other tools would have cost me as much as the tools. The tools I have never needed to service (and they've taken a beating), but the batteries I have replaced pretty much 2 or 3 times each. Since then, I have picked up a few more, including impact and another drill, and have 3 batteries. I switched to Ridgid over 15 years ago, when I went to HD to get a new battery for my Makita drill, and realized the battery cost more than buying a new Ridgid Drill kit (had some father's day promo going on). Register the parts of the kit within 90 days and you get a Lifetime warranty on everything, including the batteries. Often goes on sale, or promo with extra battery and stuff. Regular price just over $200 (this is regular pricing) for their brushless kits. But putting that aside for now.įor the average home DIY, I think the Ridgid kits are hard to beat in value. Like i6s1 mentioned, when you buy a drill/driver combo you are committing to a line of cordless tools, since you are getting a specific type of battery and charger. This would be my first drill purchase, so hoping to get good advise before buying one.
